It seems as if the busses here go faster the longer Lotte and I stay here. It feels like we’ve only been here for three days. So it feels as if the time passes quicker. Maybe even too quick.

Today I worked with Bill from Commercial management. They make the contract with the client and a contract with a subcontractor. They need subcontractors for materials that they don’t produce themselves for example. There are three types of contract called Open book, Target price contract and Fixed price. The open book means that the client pays everything you need to make the product and pays an extra fee to make profit over what the client pays. With Open book the risk is low for the supplier. The Fixed price means that the client gives the supplier a certain amount of money and doesn’t pay more or less. So if the supplier can make the product for less than the given money they have more profit, but the supplier has a higher risk. Lastly you have the Target price which means that the client ad supplier agree on a certain amount of money and if it’s either below or above that certain amount of money a percentage of that goes to the client and to the supplier. So they both can take the win and the pain. That contract is kind of in between the Open book and the Fixed price.

After that I worked with Godson from the planning team. As a planner you are kind of a Jack of all trades, master of none. You have to know about very department you plan for, but you don’t have to be good at working at those. Planning is very important because you have to know where to start to accomplish something. Otherwise you’ll just jump into the void and see where it ends. If you have planned what everyone needs to do, it’s important to keep track of everyone’s progress. If you don’t do that the project will never be finished on time and you won’t have a happy client. The factors time, resources and budget influence whether the project will go as planned. The project never goes exactly as planned because we are human beings, but it’s important to stay as close as possible to the planning. For the planning they use a program on the computer. I also had to plan my own project, which was a party.

Then we were finished with our EIO at Vanderlande and went to London again. There we went to the Tower Bridge, Big ben, Tate Modern and Hyde park. Tate Modern had some interesting art, but I guess some pieces are ‘too modern’ for me. In Hyde park were a lot of squirrels that were accustomed to the people. So they didn’t ran away if you stood close to them and said squirrel with a French accent. After hyde park we walked back to the subway and came along the Royal Albert Hall. Apparently Guus Meeuwis would be performing there and I wondered what he wanted to sing there. So of course we didn’t sing Brabant in Dunglish with a stupid country accent. When we went back to our hotel we took the wrong bus so unfortunately is the journey was way longer than expected. While waiting for our right bus there were some French guys that asked us whether bus 105 went to a certain terminal and I guess they didn’t understand because they almost stepped into the wrong bus. But yeah I guess we aren’t really the right persons to ask whether what bus goes where because we can’t even travel properly with them ourselves yet.
